Sunday Strolls: Wells to Stiffkey

The beauty of this route is it is perfectly flat (you could even run it if you fancied it!) and perfectly peaceful.

Starting in Wells you can pick up the coast path from the quay and weave through the marshes taking in the vast views across the salt flats, which are a vibrant purple with sea lavender at the moment until you get to Stiffkey, it is one path so if you are anything like me and are slightly direction-ally challenged this route is perfect. There are Norfolk Coast Path signs directing you when to cut into Stiffkey.

However, my favourite thing about this walk is the treats on offer when you get to Skiffkey. There are two great options depending on if you’re in the market for coffee and cake or a good old fashioned pub lunch.

@stiffkeystores is one of my favourite places in Norfolk to show people, if you ever fancied running away and opening a general store in a beautiful location Stiffkey Stores is where you want to be! Not only do they serve some of the best coffee around, they have the most amazingly curated collection of homewares in their barn, as well as children's toys, artisan supplies and fresh produce in their shop. The exterior is just as beautiful with seating in among beautiful plants both for sale and decoration. It is very easy to go in to enjoy a coffee and come out with a loaf of bread, a new candle and a local bottle of wine. And of course they serve some lovely cakes, perfect for a post walk refuel (can recommend the blondie!).

If you fancy a more substantial meal then @stiffkey_red_lion is a family run pub making huge waves on the food scene here in North Norfolk. Liam & Caroline have managed to find the balance of making everyone feel so welcome whilst still producing lots of delicious, next level food. The menu changes daily with a very local, seasonal focus and there are always some great bar snacks. Rumour has it they are lighting up a BBQ on those sunny days too.

Stroll back the way you came or hope on to the brilliant Coast Hopper!

Distance: 4ish miles each way.
